A Visitor's Guide to Nokt: Overview: The Gods of Nokt
Originally, Nokt supported the entire pantheon of Nalo’s deities. As Nokt broke away form their mother country, however, they decided to “pare down” and do away with certain aspects of what they considered a bloated and over-developed religion. Six gods of magic may be feasible in a civilized land without many hardships, but in a new colony far from home… changes had to be made.
Clerics in Nokt have their choice of all the “standard” deities in the default Dungeons & Dragons pantheon, and also a few deities unique to this land:
Karnin, the God of Commerce
Neutral
Pantheon: trade, luck, gambling
Domain: Law, Luck
Symbol: A chest inside an ornate circle
Karnin is the god of commerce, in all its capriciousness and potential. Usually depicted as a fat, balding man, Karnin is often thought of as being the ultimate bargainer and shopper.
Tosh, God of Magic and Knowledge
Lawful-Neutral
Pantheon: Magic, knowledge
Domain: Law, Magic, Knowledge
Symbol: A thick book bound in leather and metal
Tosh is, first and foremost, the God of Magic, and second of Knowledge. Never pictured in the flesh, Tosh is usually assumed to be more of a presence than a physical person. His passion is magic above all else, and he desires nothing more than to see followers developing new and unique magic items.
Lal, Goddess of Music
Chaotic-Good
Pantheon: Art, Music, Performance
Domain: Charm, Travel, Community
Symbol: A small silver bell
Lal is the goddess of music, and is associated with Nokt’s famed Bells of Lal. Her clerics and devotees are required to have at least three ranks in Perform, and also be able to play a musical instrument of some type.
Lal’s ceremonies are large gatherings held monthly, and are always musical in nature. Her ceremonies often feature hallucinogenic drugs taken by the participants as they play their musical instruments and perform into the wee hours of the night.
In addition to these three unique deities, a cleric in Nokt has the option to worship non-denominationally; that is, to worship divine power itself. Kestrell runs the Church of the Open Arms, the non-denominational church in Nokt. See its entry for details.
Rules for this type of clerical power appear in the Core Rulebooks.
