A Visitor's Guide to Nokt: Old Farm Ring: The New Market
The New Market is the biggest thing to happen to Nokt since the War, if you listen to some of the people who have shopped here. Where the Central Market in Old Town is neat and orderly (and somewhat small, in comparison), The New Market is a riot of activity and unorganized merchant booths. Spread across two old farmsteads, the land was purchased by a former trader, Constantine Filos, a human woman of intermediate age.
Any and all are welcome to set up a booth here, and sell anything they want to – as long as they pay one of Constantine’s reps a daily selling fee (typically one gold piece, though some merchants have reportedly been forced to pay more in order to sell), and as long as the Town Guard doesn’t take exception to the goods. Additionally, paying the seller’s fee does not necessarily mean that the New Market condones what is being sold – the motto here is definitely one of “buyer beware.”
Despite the potential for shady dealings in The New Market, most of the sales are totally legal and conducted over good, solid, valuable merchandise – but the vendors just couldn’t get into Market Square soon enough for their tastes. The New Market definitely filled a niche when it opened, and it has continued to grow in popularity (for obvious reasons).
